Hypnotherapy is a very powerful healing tool, and when associated with conventional
therapies or medicine, it helps the patients become efficient partners in the
therapeutic process, regaining control over their lives. Hypnosis is not mysterious
nor magical. Misconceptions, preconceived ideas or unrealistic expectations
are due to misinformation and the use of trance states for entertainment purposes
or stage hypnosis.
Hypnosis is a Normal State
Hypnosis is a normal state of concentrated and focused attention. We experience
hypnosis spontaneously several times per day. The focus of attention becomes internal
and narrow: when we lose sense of time reading a book, absorbed in a TV program,
or driving for hours on highways concentrating on our thoughts. We allow our
conscious mind to drift away and go to rest. Our subconscious carries out for
us an extremely larger number of activities than our conscious mind.
The Subconscious and the Conscious
Different aspects of Self are in charge of specific activities. Very simply put,
the Subconscious is in charge of the automatic, involuntary bodily functions
and actions. It stores memories, is responsible for emotions, spontaneous ideas,
intuition, attitudes, self image and habits. It is "unlimited" and does not make
the difference between reality and imagination. Meanwhile, the Conscious Mind
solves problems with efficiency in real time and space as long as it works in
the limited realm of the individual's present belief system. It is analytical,
critical and logical, preventing us from making mistakes. However, it sometimes generates
anxiety when confronted with conflicting beliefs, experiences of limitations or
loss of control.
The conscious mind is unable to help with "rationals" in case of acute stressful
events, or some lifetime suffering habits. It does not have the unlimited powers
of the subconscious. Hypnotherapy is a consent situation. We work together
to bring about changes and improve life. The client ready to access the deepest
part of Self, reaches the roots of blockages. When the practitioner guides
body and conscious mind to relax and go to rest, the subconscious comes to
the front, receptive to suggestions which we had agreed upon before the trance.
With regressions we find the roots of a problem, uncover buried memories and
the causes of unwanted habits.
Client and Hypnotherapist as a Team
Under trance, we work on emotional release, forgiveness, reframing, anchoring
clients in positive feelings regarding the accomplishment of new acceptable
behaviors. We address the subconscious mind in its own language including metaphors
and images, we have Conscious and Subconscious collaborate to reach harmonious,
workable solutions.
